PictureCo-leaders Kellette Elliott and Kirk Read 2024
In 2019, Laura Weiler and Kellette Elliott met each other at an art exhibit they were both a part of in Portland, Oregon and quickly became friends. They later went to a small collage meet-up the week before everything shut down for COVID and discovered there is a need for a community for collage artists in the area. Laura came up with the idea of starting a collective and invited Kellette to join her in this venture.

They launched the Pacific Northwest Collage Collective in January 2021 with an Instagram account. Tagging other collectives around the world and any local collage artist they could find.  Local means not only Oregon, but British Columbia, Washington State, and Idaho. The following started to grow and they wanted to launch their first event---an international open call for an art show in the middle of a pandemic! Makes sense right?! Community was a word that was really important, so that was the the theme of the show. They collected work digitally from artists around the world, all hunkered down in their homes to create a beautiful show at Clive Knights' Fence Gallery. Galleries and other venues were closed, so this was a great way to have an exhibit, people could visit, without compromising their health. The collages were printed on weatherproof boards and installed on Clive's fence in Portland, OR and was a great hit! There was an opening day, news crew, and lots of attendees.

For the next few years, PNW Collage Collective hosted two art shows in Wenatchee, Washington, helped with a show in Seattle, Washington. Smaller shows in Portland, Oregon. Hosted international open calls for Artist Trading Card Swaps, and many collage meet-ups!

Laura moved with her family to Michigan in 2023, and Kellette needed another co-leader. She brought on Kirk Read of Portland. Since then, they have hosted numerous collage meet-ups and an awesome exhibit at Powell's Bookstore in 2024 for World Collage Day.  The PNW Collage Collective is a family. They welcome any age, any skill level, and there are no membership dues. The goal of the PNW Collage Collective is to welcome anyone that has an interest in the media of collage to know they are welcome in this family with open arms. This is still just the beginning of PNW Collage Collective, there are many more adventures ahead!

Kellette & Kirk
